The Massachusetts-based soft drink company Moxie was fortunate in landing Red Sox great Ted Williams as their celebrity spokesperson during the 1950s and 60s. Though the drink itself is an “acquired taste,” Ted Williams’ appeal to New England audiences is not. Though Ted appeared on a multitude of advertising pieces for the brand, this die-cut display is perhaps the most eye-catching. Williams is boldly depicted in a classic batters pose in his Red Sox home uniform. A bottle of Moxie appears beside him behind which a large red circle with the slogan, “Ted Williams says Make Mine a Moxie.” The piece is completed with the additional slogan, “for a LIFT… the HEALTHFUL way” written along the bottom. The colors are exceedingly bright and vibrant, augmented by the professional matt and framing with protective UV glass. This is the only example of the small version of this sign that we have ever seen offered at auction and so far as our consigner and SCP are aware, this is the only one in existence. It is professionally matted and framed with protective UV glass. The frame measures 14" x 11.5" and the advertising display measures 10" x 7."
