Fall Premier Auction 2013

When the good burghers of Milwaukee whisked the Braves out of Boston at the start of the 1953 season, one of the great whirlwind romances in postwar major league history was underway. At its apex in the mid-1950's, youngster across Wisconsin were wearing these charming little baseball uniforms, a handsome replication of the duds their heroes were wearing at Milwaukee County Stadium. This off-white cotton flannel uniform, sports a twill weave with V-neckline, short sleeves, showing good use but both shirt and pants in largely as-issued and problem-free condition. The shirt fastens at center front with four white plastic buttons; neckline, sleeve hems, and center front opening on proper left side outlined with red and black braid (two rows at neckline and opening) with the embroidered black and red wool felt "Braves," and black cotton twill Tomahawk with yellow machine-embroidered outlining and decoration. The intricately embroidered patch on proper left sleeve of Native American male boasts the large green, red, and yellow feather headdress. The pants show use in much the same fashion as the shirt; absence of tagging makes giving a size problematic, but think maybe Eddie Gaedel or thereabouts.
