The late Les Richter was an accomplished linebacker who played for the Los Angeles Rams from 1954 to 1962. Prior to landing in the NFL, Richter played guard and linebacker for the California Golden Bears and was twice recognized as a consensus All-American and first-team All-Pacific Coast (1950 and ’51). He was valedictorian of his graduating class of 1952. After graduation, he served in the Korean War for the U.S. Army for two years and then embarked on his NFL career.

This lot features Richter’s 1950 “All-America” certificate that measures 14” wide by 17” high but has since been transferred and adhered to an oversized wooden plaque that measures 16.5” wide by 20.5” high. The impressive certificate is signed by five members of the All-America Board of Football including Bernie Bierman, Frank W. Thomas, longtime sports agent Christy Walsh, Jeff Cravath and football mainstay Glenn “Pop” Warner. Following his prolific gridiron career, Richter served as the head of operations for NASCAR and president of the Riverside International Raceway. With the Rams, he played in eight Pro Bowls and was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1982 and posthumously into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
