Rated by many as the finest all-round catcher in the history of the sport, Dickey was one of the brightest stars of Yankee teams that held sway over the American League between World War I and World War II. In his 17 years as a player from 1928 until 1946 -- all with the Yankees and all at catcher -- he played in eight World Series and only once had to accept a losing share of the purse. In 1949, Dickey returned to the Yankees as a first base coach, and as catching instructor, mentoring Yogi Berra at the position. In his trademark fractured English, Berra said, "Bill Dickey is learning me all of his experiences." Once again, Dickey would be a cog in the Yankees Championship machine in 1949. In lieu of a World Series ring that year, Dickey opted for this 14k gold and diamond ladies wristwatch which he lovingly gifted to his mother. Upon his mother's passing, the watch was passed down to Dickey's wife. It is presented here in wonderful original condition, having been carefully preserved in working order.
