Fairly consistent complete set of the extremely difficult 1948 Leaf Baseball issue with most cards falling within the VG to EX range some fairing better or worse. The first post-war set since Goudey and Play Ball issues featured a plethora of rookie stars and Hall of Famers. 12 cards have been graded by PSA and of these five are EX or better. The highlight is the iconic Jackie Robinson rookie that presents in a very clean graded PSA EX-MT 6 with sharp corners and bright colors. That card alone has an SMR value of $8,500. Other graded standouts are Joe DiMaggio (PSA VG-EX+ 4.5), Stan Musial rookie (PSA VG-EX 4), Alvin Dark rookie (PSA NM 7), Al Newhouser rookie (PSA VG-EX+ 4.5), and Larry Doby rookie (PSA VG-EX 4).
There are some trimmed cards included, a rather common trait of '48 Leaf sets due to the smaller, non-traditional card size. Babe Ruth and Ted Williams have been identified by PSA. Others such as Satchel Paige, Bob Feller and George Kell appear trimmed to us. The
consignor built much of this tough set from scratch, breaking out many in card packs as a kid in the early 1950's and then storing them in
a safety deposit box for decades as an adult. Keys are:
