This outstanding Chesterfield display brings together the greatest ballplayers of 1947. From the National League we have the league’s MVP Bob Elliott who would go on to lead the Boston Braves to the 1948 pennant; Cincinnati Reds ace Ewell Blackwell who won 22 games including 16 consecutive complete games; and Stan Musial who would be that season’s NL MVP. The American League is represented by Ted Williams who won back to back batting championships in 1947 and 1948; Joe DiMaggio the 1947 AL MVP; and Bucky Harris who managed the Yankees to their 11th World Championship in 1947. Each of these superstar’s portraits are enhanced by the green diamond and bright red background. The famous “ABC” Always Buy Chesterfield slogan is along the bottom in golden yellow letters. Measuring 21” x 22”, this example is in very fine condition with some edge wear and surface rippling present, none of which affects the visual beauty of this piece. Easily one of the most attractive post-war baseball advertising displays, this piece has been professionally matted and framed to enhance the eye-catching impact of the artwork. Professionally framed and matted with UV protective glass. While other examples of this valued sign have been sold at auction, this is easily one of the finest, if not the finest of them all.
