Perhaps no player in major league history enjoyed a more meteoric rise to stardom than Stan Musial. In 1941, Musial rose from the low minors to the major leagues during the course of a single remarkable season. After tearing through the Cardinals Class C and B minor league system, Musial was called up to the Cardinals in September, and was an immediate sensation, getting six hits in a doubleheader and batting .426 in his twelve-game stint. In 1942, his standout performance earned him the starting left field job. He would go on to establish an unparalleled legacy as the greatest and most beloved player ever to don a Cardinals uniform. Due to a paper shortage in the early and mid 1940's, card collectors and fans would have to wait until 1948 before they would see Stan 'The Man's' image in a major card issue. By this time Musial had already won two League batting titles and was on his way to a third. Musial would go on to win six batting titles amidst a string of 17 consecutive seasons hitting over .300.
