Even though the Babe was suffering from cancer in 1947, his love of children was such that he agreed to partner with the Ford Motor Company and tour the country as a consultant to their American Legion Junior Baseball program. Along with his personal appearances and meet and greets with the young ballplayers, the Babe handed out 5 x 7 photo prints of him in his prime belting out one of his trademark home runs. Ruth would sign these prints and award them to worthy athletes and sponsors of the American Legion program. This example has Ruth’s signature in bold blue ink along the top white border. The print shows some surface wear and scuffs from display and age. The ink of his signature has been slightly smudged, most likely due to the ink having difficulty adhering to the print when it was originally autographed. The reverse of the print shows toning from age and is without any markings or stamps. The print has been encapsulated and graded an AUTHENTIC AUTO by PSA.
