Augie Galan was a journeyman outfielder who competed with five different major league teams during his 16-year MLB career. Galan posted a .287 batting average with 1,706 hits, 100 home runs and 830 run batted in in 1,742 games played. This lot features a very rare, very unique Brooklyn Dodgers jersey from the 1944 season. That was the year – the only year – that “Dem Bums” introduced and wore their blue satin “Night Game” jerseys. This is Augie Galan’s gamer from that campaign in which the Dodgers recorded an overall record of 63-91, which placed them a distant seventh in the National League standings.

The powder blue satin jersey shows considerable wear and features “Brooklyn” across the front in white script tackle twill. Other white highlights include a thick strip down either sleeves and around the base of the short sleeves. Proper Wilson manufacturer’s tag resides on the inside rear collar, in between an embroidered name tag spelling out “Galan” in dark blue chain-stitching and a strip tag reading “42” indicating the jersey size. The reverse of the jersey shows Galan’s number “24” in seven-inch tall, white tackle twill numerals. The Dodgers played just a few night games under lights, which led to a brief dalliance with the satin uniforms. For the record, Galan was an All-Star selection that season and batted .318 with 93 RBI and a league-leading 101 walks.

Includes MEARS LOA (A9.5 Grade).
