In the 1940s, Babe Ruth became friends with a local New York City restaurateur named Jack Musante after eating at his establishment many times and attending parties at his home with other ballplayers (see Lot 124). According to Musante's daughter (our consignor), her father got this ball signed by Ruth and fellow Hall of Famer Bill Terry on one of these occasions. Terry, of course, spent his entire career with the New York Giants as player and manager before retiring in 1941. On the west panel of what appears to be an official league ball (manufacturer stamps have worn off from age), Ruth has signed "To My Pal, Jack Musante, From Babe Ruth" in faded but legible 4/10 blue ink. Terry appears on the north panel in similar form. The well-soiled and scuffed ball does not appear to have any other signatures. A nice parting gift from one of the restaurant owner's biggest celebrity patrons. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA (AG01606).
