Steady Joe Gordon hit 20 or more home runs seven times in his 11-year career, which was interrupted by military service in World War II. Despite playing in poor parks for his right-handed power, Gordon socked more than 250 home runs, setting an AL career record for homers by a second baseman. He was also a fine defensive player who won five World Series rings with the Yankees and Indians. From his second season as a Yankee, Gordon's home pinstriped jersey shows extensive wear. His name is stitched in the collar next to the Spalding manufacturer's tag. The 1939 Centennial sleeve patch is original, but has been reattached. The only other alteration to the jersey is the restored "NY" logo on front. A few small holes and stains are present, but do not severely detract form the jersey's excellent display quality. Gordon was a nine time All-Star and AL MVP (1942). LOA from MEARS (A6).
