The year was 1937 and the Iron Horse receives the Iron Man award from George M. Cohan for playing in 1900 consecutive games. Little did anyone know that only a season would pass before Gehrig's illustrious career would come to an unplanned and abrupt conclusion. Lou Gehrig would go on to play in a total of 2,130 games before stepping away from the game due to his declining health and eventual untimely death from ALS.
Presented here is the original photograph of Gehrig receiving the Iron Man award from the entertainment A-lister and big time baseball fan, George Cohan. The photo measures 8.5" x 6.5" and captures a gleaful Gehrig accepting the unique award. The photo does have some blemishes in the upper right quadrant and a small crease is evident on the bottom left corner. Another imperfection can be found in black ink over Gehrig's right arm and onto his pinstriped flannel. Overall nice looking photo of Gehrig before his health and career began to decline. Encapsulated and graded TYPE 1 by PSA/DNA.
