Here is a nice example of a 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics participation medal complete with its original case. There are four different versions, all made of bronze, and this one is of the darker brown variety. The obverse depicts an artistic layer of five athletes, representing the five continents, pulling the ropes of the Olympic Bell etched with "XI OLYMPIADE BERLIN 1936". The reverse shows the Olympic bell embossed with the German Eagle. The name of the designer, "Otto Placzek", is etched on the reverse at lower right. "GUSS - H.NOACK - BERLIN" is etched on the rim to pay homage to one of the four production foundries that minted these medals. Weight is 115 grams, diameter is 70 mm, and thickness ranges 3-7 mm with the raised relief depictions. 3,980 total athletes participated, but only a fraction of those received this version. Comes in EF condition with little wear. Includes original red presentation case in decent shape (compared to most), emblazoned with the Olympic bell.
