The NFL was formed in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association (APFA) before renaming itself the “National Football League” for the 1922 season. The NFL agreed to merge with the American Football League (AFL) in 1966, and the first Super Bowl was held at the end of that season between the NFL Champion Green Bay Packers and the AFL Champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Packers prevailed, 33-14. The game has only grown by leaps and bounds since then and now boasts 32 teams. This lot features a rare, 1935 NFL pictorial schedule poster that was produced by Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer. The oversized (23.5” wide by 33.5” high) framed poster shows a total of 18 top players from the league that season, which was comprised of just nine teams, and includes the season schedule. Mostly black and white save for some spot red coloring, the poster includes photos of former standouts like Don Huston (Packers) and Bronko Nagurski (Bears). The poster is printed on thin paper stock and has metal runners on both the top and bottom. Two metal clasps are affixed to the rear of the top runner so that the piece can be easily hung. A number of moderate tears affect the upper right corner, and upper left border, and there are a few small edge tears along the bottom left border. Light-to-moderate creasing is evident throughout.
