"The Gashouse Gang" was the nickname for the St. Louis Cardinals that won a total of five National League Pennants and three World Series championships from 1926-1934. The name originated from New York sportswriters who noticed this rag-tag crew of unshaven, tobacco-spittin', unsanitary looking players (many with thick Southern accents) would often show up to their visiting clubhouses on the road in what appeared to be the same stinky, unwashed uniforms they had worn a day or two prior. (The Gashouse District was a dirty NYC neighborhood with many drunks and delinquents.) Offered is a ball signed by a majority of this notorious team.
