Hall of Famer Gabby Hartnett was the backbone of the Cubs teams that won pennants in 1929, 1932, 1935 and 1938. A great defensive catcher, he was also a fine clutch hitter, as exemplified in his famous “Homer in the Gloamin’” that helped the Cubs win the pennant in 1938. Hartnett was the first major league catcher to hit more than 20 home runs in a season and he would later manage the Cubs from 1938 to 1940. This example of his 1933 Goudey card displays wonderful coloring with bright borders to grade out at PSA NM 7.
