Nicknamed “Jumbo” due to his large size, Brown had failed to make good as a starter for the Indians and Cubs. The Yankees picked him up and made him a relief pitcher, a role he excelled at. His 1933 Goudey card is one of the most attractive in the set, showing the husky relief ace in a classic pitcher’s pose with an abstract pastel colored background. This example is the finest in existence; PSA has graded it a NM-MT 8 and there are none graded higher.
