The “Rajah” is often called the greatest right handed hitter of all time. From 1915 to 1937, Hornsby averaged .358, second only to Ty Cobb. He hit over .400 three times, including a remarkable .424 in 1924. He won the Triple Crown twice and to this day remains the only player in history to hit 40 homers and .400 in the same season. When Hornsby’s 1933 card was released, he was splitting his time between both St. Louis teams, first as a second baseman for the Cards, and later as player manager of the Browns. Due to Hornsby’s great fame, he was depicted on two cards in the 1933 Goudey set, one with each team. This example shows him as a Cardinal. The card is graded a near-perfect PSA NM-MT 8 with eye catching color and razor-sharp corners with a pack-fresh clean back.
