When Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig hit a home run, chances are they also drove in Earle Combs before them. The “Kentucky Colonel” was the lead-off hitter for New York’s “Murderer’s Row” as the team won three World Championships and four pennants. The Yankees longtime center fielder led the AL in triples three times and batted .325 on his way to a Hall of Fame career. When an injury ended his career prematurely in 1934, Combs came back as a Yankees coach to help tutor a young kid named Joe DiMaggio master the finer points of playing center field. This 1933 Goudey with eye-popping color has been graded a PSA NM-7.
