This offered Chicago White Sox jersey and pants set date to the 1932-35 period when the South Side boys sported this home style jersey, The heavy cream-colored flannel has the unique Sox embroidered logo on the left chest with a bat and ball design incorporated into the letters. The jersey features a blue stand-up collar and 3/4 length sleeves with navy blue trip on the ends. A “Wilson” manufacturer’s label appears in the collar with an adjacent size “44” tag. The jersey is properly dated to 1933 – the same year as the inaugural MLB All-Star Game held at the ChiSox’s Comiskey Park – with a “33” chain-stitched in the left front tail.

It would appear that the jersey belonged to #5 Jimmy Dykes and was initially authenticated as such several years ago. However, upon a closer review it has recently been determined that the back “5” was originally a “2” turned inside out and upside down, while the “Dykes” stitched strip tag in the left tail is not original to the jersey. The rest of the shirt is authentic and as-issued, missing just one button second from the top. Our best guess as to who wore it is either Bennie Tate (1932) or a minor leaguer in Spring Training. The jersey exhibits ample wear with soiling on the rear tail and has aged exceptionally well with no moth damage or holes to speak of.

The accompanying pair of cream-colored pants were worn by John Pomorski, who pitched in the big leagues for the White Sox in 1934. The waistband has a “Wilson” label, below which is a white strip tag with “Pomorski” chain-stitched in blue. The pants show heavy wear, with several holes throughout and two team repairs. Any pre-war baseball uniforms are highly collectable, and this one dates to a very significant year in Chicago for Major League Baseball.
