The late Bill Miller was an American pole vaulter who won a gold medal at the 1932 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. At the U.S. Olympic trials that year he actually finished second (4.30 meters) behind teammate Bill Graber, who set a new world record at 4.37 meters. Graber, however, failed to clear 4.25 meters at the Olympic Games, while Miller set his all-time personal best at 4.31 meters and won the gold, in a very close competition with Japan’s Shuhei Nishida. Miller passed away in 2008 at the age of 96. This lot features a 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games Men’s Pole Vault 1st Place diploma that was presented to Miller. The framed diploma, which measures 24” wide by 19” high, reads “XTH OLYMPIAD Los Angeles 1932 Williams W. Miller Athletics Pole Vault – First.” It includes facsimile signatures of both presidents from The Organizing Committee and well as The International Olympic Committee.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
