The W517 is believed to have been produced by the Exhibit Supply Company, maker of the many black and white postcard-sized sets from the 1920s through the early 60s.

Many of the W517 set feature Hall of Famers and there are two Babe Ruth cards among the 54 cards. The cards carry the player’s name and team on the bottom half with a number inside a circle. They were printed on thicker stock and issued in vertical strips of three inside a box. Imagine youngsters of the day crudely cutting or folding the strips to get individual cards. Yikes! So with those dynamics finding high grade examples of any other these cards is rare.

Proudly presented here is the Babe Ruth #20 Portrait-Hand Cut graded a strong NM 7 from PSA.
