The 1931 USC Trojans football team, coached by Howard Jones, won the National Championship. On Nov. 21, 1931, the Trojans beat the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, 16-14, in South Bend, Indiana. It was the seventh straight victory that season for the Trojans who went on to win the national title following a 21-12 victory over Tulane in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day 1932. This lot includes a team-signed football autographed by no fewer than 26 team members including Head Coach Jones. All signatures are in legible black ink on the “SC” branded football. Other notable signatures include: All-America selections Gaius Shaver and Erny Pinckert, Bob Erskine, John Baker, Howard Tipton and Stan Williamson. The surprisingly heavy football, which weighs almost three-and-a-half pounds, comes attached to a small brown wooden base and is in remarkable shape. All of the signatures are strong.
