The 1931 Yankees won 94 games during the regular season, but came up short in the pennant race behind Connie Mack's Philadelphia A's who finished with 107 victories. Lou Gehrig set an American League record by driving in 184 runs in a single season. Joe McCarthy, previously with the Red Sox, took over as the Yanks’ skipper. Over the next 16 years, McCarthy would lead the Yankees to nine pennants and seven World Series titles. This wonderful 1931 team-signed ONL (Heydler stamp mostly legible) ball has 18 signatures including HOFers Tony Lazzeri, Joe Sewell, Red Ruffing, Bill Dickey (signed twice), Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth on the sweet spot. Ruth and Gehrig both rate 6/10 in our opinion. Other notables are Wells, Byrd, Rhodes, Hoag, Jorgens, Lary, Weaver, Glenn, etc. Spalding ball is in EX shape and signatures range 3-6/10. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (AG03993).
