The 1929 Philadelphia Athletics were a force to be reckoned with. Led by owner-manager Connie Mack, the Athletics finished the regular season with a 104-46 record to win the American league pennant, a full 18 games ahead of the second-place New York Yankees. In the World Series that year, the Athletics steamrolled the NL Champion Chicago Cubs, four games to one. This is a Philadelphia Athletics team-signed baseball from that winning campaign. The official American League (Ernest Barnard) baseball has been signed in either blue or black ink by no less than 20 team members including, across the sweet spot, both Mack and starting catcher Mickey Cochrane. Average grade is 4-5/10. Other top names that are legible on the ball include infielders Jimmie Foxx and Bud Morse; outfielders Bing Miller, Walter French, Mule Haas and Homer Summa; backup catcher Cloy Mattox; and pitchers Lefty Grove, Eddie Rommel, Howard Ehmke and George Earnshaw. The aged baseball shows considerable toning throughout.
