Football signed by famed Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne and the members of his 1929 Collegiate National Football Champions. 1929 would see the 2nd of Rockne's National Champions with the following year, 1930, being the last before his tragic death in a Kansas plane crash. The 1929 team would go a perfect 9-0, outscoring their opponents 145-38 with 4 shutouts, beating Indiana, Navy, Wisconsin, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech, Drake, USC, Northwestern, and Army. Rockne has signed his traditional spot on one side of the seams with over 45 members of the team filling in the panel opposite. Among the more prominent signatures on the ball, besides the legendary Knute Rockne, are 10 All-Americans - Frank Carideo(1929-30), Jack Cannon(1929), Ted Twomey(1929), Marchy Schwartz(1930-31), Marty Brill(1930), Joe Savoldi(1930), Bert Metzger(1930), Tom Conley(1930), Al Culver(1930), and Tommy Yarr(1931). Future Irish coach Frank Leahy is also present. Despite the poor contrast due to the darkening of the ball the black ink signatures still rate a very nice 6/10 or better. Luckily, the consignor went to the expense of having sepia tone images made of the panels, including an enlargement of the Rocke signature, which show the quality and detail of the signatures. These have been framed nicely along with all 50 names on the ball and are included with this lot. Also included is a photo of the 1929 Notre Dame starting offense, which includes All-Americans Carideo, Brill, Conley, Cannon, and Twomey along with Leahy. Incredible piece of Notre Dame Football History. The consignor also had a very nice custom display case made to hold the ball, weighing almost 20 pounds. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
