The 1929 Chicago Cubs, managed by Joe McCarthy, finished first in the National League with a record of 98–54, 10.5 games ahead of the second place Pittsburgh Pirates. In the World Series, the Cubs were defeated four games to one by the Philadelphia Athletics. Offered here is a partial team-signed official National League (Heydler) baseball with the words “CUBS 1929” written across the sweet spot. Notable signatures include: Lewis Hack Wilson and Charlie Grimm (east panel); Rogers Hornsby and Leo “Gabby” Hartnett (west); Perce “Pat” Malone and Hal Carlson(north); and team trainer Andy Lotshaw (south). The signatures average 7-8/10. The ball is moderately toned with medium general handling wear.
