In 1928 the United States Golf Association hosted its Open Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club just outside Chicago for the first time. A patron used this offered ticket to watch the tournament unfold 90 years ago, and it was a final round 77 by the great Bobby Jones that opened the door for little known Johnny Farrell. Jones ended up losing to Farrell, a former caddie, in a 36-hole playoff. The rare collapse seemed to motivate Jones as he went on to win the next two U.S. Opens. This red circular (3 1/8") "Gallery" ticket to the second round on Friday, June 22, is, to our knowledge, the only known example to survive from any round at the '28 Open. Missing its original string attachment, it appears in EX condition with light, scattered creasing and moderate surface wear.
