Original Type I photograph of shortstop Roger Peckinpaugh taken during his 1925 American League MVP campaign. A year after winning a World Series with the Senators, he led Washington to another AL Pennant before falling to the Pirates in the Fall Classic. Discovered while in high school by Nap Lajoie of the Cleveland Naps, Peckinpaugh played 17 seasons in the big leagues, most prominently with the Yankees from 1913-21. He was teammates with Cy Young (briefly), Babe Ruth and Walter Johnson. He later spent six plus seasons as manager for the Cleveland Indians.
Captioned on the reverse with the 1996 Baseball Magazine archives sticker, the photo presents despite a cut upper right corner and lower horizontal crease. Powerful portrait capturing a pre-war star’s game face in sharp focus.
