In 1923, boxing legend Jack Dempsey was the heavyweight champion of the world. He made plenty of publicity appearances during his reign including some in the burgeoning horse-racing industry. This lot features the Rendezvous Trophy, which was awarded by Dempsey at the Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, California on Nov. 2, 1923. Standing 13.5 inches tall and 12 inches wide, the two-handled trophy sits atop a cherry wood base that measures eight inches in diameter and weighs around three pounds total. We are unable to verify the exact metal composition of the trophy, but it appears to be non-sterling and silver plated. The front of the trophy is adorned with the following text: “RENDEZVOUS TROPHY Presented by JACK DEMPSEY, Champion of the World, Nov. 2, 1923.” Exquisite early 1900's piece presented to one of the kings of the "Roaring Twenties."

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
