This incredible pocket watch originates from the estate of Bill “Cyclone” Lyons, a former State Senator from Colorado. Lyons was the time keeper for many of fellow Colorado native Jack Dempsey’s big fights in the 1920’s. Presented to Lyons by the Manassa Mauler, this dazzling white gold pocket watch is lavishly adorned with precious gems and features photographic images on the face of Jack Dempsey, Lyons & Jack Kearns. A brilliant ring of diamonds encompasses the watch face. The back features a patriotic ring of diamonds, rubies & opals surrounding a classic Apeda photo of Dempsey at the center. Lettering in blue enamel reads, "To A True Friend My Pal Sen. Bill Lyons…From Wm. Harrison ('Jack') Dempsey…Heavyweight Champion of the World…Christmas 1920." Condition is overall excellent with tiny bit of crazing to the face. Elaborate Leonidas 17-jewel works perfectly. Accompanying the watch is and original 5” by 5" vintage photo of Lyons being presented this watch. Lyons likely used this stopwatch for important Dempsey fights for which he acted as timekeeper (Dempsey-Gibbons & Dempsey-Willard). This is among the finest quality early boxing presentation pieces we’ve handled, related to the preeminent fighter of the early 20th century.
