Part of the Yahtzee Box Find, this 1917 Zee-Nut PCL card representes Hall of Famer Frank Chance's last ever issue (Lot 17 is his last MLB card). For 15 years with the Chicago Orphans/Cubs, he anchored himself at first base, part of the immortal Tinker-Evers-Chance double-play combo. Offensively, he batted a respectable .296 lifetime, led the National League with 103 runs scored in 1906, won two stolen base titles, and hit .310 in four World Series appearances. As player/manager beginning in 1905, he guided the Cubbies to four pennants in five years and back-to-back 1907 and 1908 World Series titles. After serving as player/manager of the Yankees (1913-14), Chance took on the same role with the PCL's Los Angeles Angels (1916-17) in his home state. He would later manage the Red Sox in 1923 before dying of respiratory causes in 1924 at age 47. In 1946, Chance, along with double-play partners Johnny Evers and Joe Tinker, was elected to the Hall of Fame posthumously.

The lovely, hand-cut card has a casual action shot of Chance looking dapper in his Angels team sweater. With a grade of PSA VG 3, it stands alone as the highest graded example among the four total in the PSA Pop Report. Only three have been graded by SGC, with the top also being a VG 3. Other than slightly rounded corners and some spider creases, there's nothing not to like about this little beaut. White background and blank back are super clean. Chance's image pops and the text is sharp without defect. The perfect send-off for a great baseball man!
