From 1898 through 1912, Frank Chance was a key member of the Chicago Cubs. Taking over the double duty player/manager job in 1905, Chance helped lead the Cubs to four World Series', and was part of the fabled double play combo that included Tinkers and Evers. This “Frank Chance Day” collection of memorabilia dates from a ceremony at Comiskey Park on May 17, 1913. After a remarkable 15-year association with the Cubs, Chance had taken over as manager of the New York Yankees in 1913. His return to Chicago wearing Yankee gray did not dampen the enthusiasm of his Chicago fans who turned out by the tens of thousands. The collection includes: an incredible 5-1/2" pin/ribbon with strong gold stamping, the ribbon component is particularly rare and may have only been available to VIP's (NM); a ticket stub to the game (written on the back in pencil is "Stand collapsed, none hurt on our stand," indicative of the immense crowd in attendance); a 1" "Frank Chance Day" pinback (EX/MT).
