Offered here is an ancient grouping of seven SGC graded cards from the esteemed 1911 M116 Sporting Life set highlighted by Hall of Fame hurlers Christy Mathewson and Cy Young. The New York Giant legend's card (Pastel Background version) received a PR 1 grade due to primarily (solely?) to remants of sticky residue on the reverse from album removal. The front is gorgeous with bright colors, clean borders and fairly sharp corners, gives it mid-grade eye appeal. The Cy Young (Black Back version) has been deemed Authentic/Trimmed, with the suspected act occuring on the bottom edge and/or top left corner from what we can tell. The other five cards received the same designation as Cy. All six have lovely, mid-grade looking fronts with various amounts of the adhesive substance on their backs.

The rest of the list is as follows: Frank "Home Run" Baker (Black), Hughie Jennings (Pastel), Larry Doyle (Pastel), Hal Chase (Pastel) and George McQuillan (Philadelphia). The leftover adhesive material on the reverse is not egregious by any means, as all blue or black print remains bold and perfectly legible. Produced during the heart of the tobacco card era, this set was well ahead of its time. What a fantastic group (with four Hall of Famers to boot) for any vintage collector looking to start or add to this tough set.
