Very desirable 1909-11 GD PSA 2 of Philadelphia Athletic Hall of Fame pitcher Eddie Plank from the cornerstone T206 tobacco issue. The T206 Plank is among the most valuable and revered cards in the collecting hobby. Like the legendary T206 Honus Wagner the reason for its scarcity has long been debated by collectors. A broken printing plate is one widely accepted theory as to why only a very small number of examples are known to exist today. Also, like Wagner, Plank was among the most gifted players of their era. A finesse pitcher with a sidearm sweeping curve ball, Plank joined the Athletics after graduating from Gettysburg College in 1901. He went on to pitch in the majors for 17 seasons, winning 327 games, including 20 or more games eight times, and helping the Athletics to six pennants and three World Series Championships in the new American League. The offered T206 Plank is very well centered with good color and a clear, focused picture image. All 4 corners are GD. Front is clean. Centering is close to 50/50 side to side and just a shade off this top to bottom. Front has one horizontal crease right across the eyes that results in a little paper loss. The Sweet Caporal back has bold printing with some light soiling. All things considered a very collectible card of one of the hobby's true rarities.
