There may be no athlete more revered in the city of New
Orleans than Drew Brees. In 2009, the undersized quarterback standing barely 6’
0” delivered a Super Bowl title to a community still suffering from the ill
effects of Hurricane Katrina four years earlier. When the now 38-year-old finally
decides to hang them up, he will top the record books in many categories and
find his place in Canton, Ohio, among football immortals. Presented here is a
2009 Drew Brees game-worn and signed jersey from that special championship season that
brought joy and a sense of healing to the “Who Dat?” nation.
En route to their 13-3 regular season, the Saints hosted the
New York Jets in week 4 at the Louisiana Superdome on October 4 during a Breast
Cancer Awareness sponsored game. Both teams entered the game undefeated at 3-0,
and it was the New Orleans defense that made the key plays with two touchdowns in
a 24-10 victory over Rex Ryan, Mark Sanchez and company. Wearing this very jersey which has been photo-matched, Brees played
mistake-free football, completing 20 of 32 passes for 190 yards and leading his
team on a clock-burning touchdown drive in the 4th quarter to put the
game out of reach. Brees would throw for 4,388 yards and 34 TD’s for the 2009 season,
performing flawlessly in the Saints’ playoff run (8 TD's, 0 INT) that culminated in a thrilling
Super Bowl XLIV triumph over Peyton Manning’s Colts.
The white Reebok jersey has Brees’ No. "9" on the
front, back and shoulders in black-on-gold tackle twill. His pink captain's
"C" patch with three gold stars and one white star is sewn on the
right upper chest. Each sleeve has the Saints fleur-de-lis patch with a custom
elastic hem, just like the shirttail. The back has "BREES" in black-on-gold
across a white nameplate. Appropriate tagging behind the collar shows “07-?-S”
with the size covered by the NFL/PSA sticker. This was a carry-over jersey from
previous seasons. The 100% nylon gamer exhibits outstanding wear with a mixture
of contact abrasions, turf marks, paint transfers and sweat staining throughout.
There is also plenty of fraying to the tackle twill stitching. It has not been
laundered and still carries that authentic post-game aroma. Brees has signed
the back number in 7/10 silver marker.
Comes with ironclad documentation in the form of a professional
conclusive 10/4/2009 photo-match from Resolution Photomatching along with a COA (N55993)
from the NFL and PSA/DNA. Also included is a copy of the NFL Auction listing from 2009. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
