This is the one and only 1934 Goudey #37 Lou Gehrig card known that has been graded GEM MINT 10 by a major grading service and certainly stands as the finest example that has ever surfaced in the hobby. Lou Gehrig's most celebrated baseball card, this treasure of a Goudey collectible features striking and brightly colored artwork, and showcases an illustration that is among the most enduring and recognizable images of "The Iron Horse." In the year this card was released, Gehrig won the American League Triple Crown, belted 49 homers, and drove in 165 runs with a .363 average. His efforts would very probably have led the Yankees to another pennant, but various injuries caused the Bronx Bombers to finish in second place. The offered card is a spectacular, enduring commemoration of the Hall of Famer's 1934 performance. This flawless example has pinpoint corners, breathtaking color, clean white borders, and exceptionally clear focus. Its reverse is crisp and clean. This is the only 1934 #37 Lou Gehrig card graded a 10 by either SGC or PSA out of 860 Gehrig's submitted for grading. There have been 2 others graded 9 by SCG and only 3 graded 9 by PSA. To understand the difficulty in obtaining high grade 1934 Goudey cards, one just has to look at the fact that there have been almost 22,000 1934 Goudey card submissions total to both SGC and PSA and only 22 total cards have received a perfect grade of GEM MINT 10.
