This classic 27 1/2" x 21 3/4" poster pictures champions from various sports endorsing candidate Al Smith's bid for the presidency in 1928. In the center of the poster nine Yankees, including Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, each hold a bat with a single letter attached. Together the letters read "For Al Smith." To the left is a larger illustration of Babe Ruth in a batting pose. Other champions endorsing Al Smith in this poster include Knute Rockne, Gene Tunney and John McGraw. Al Smith lost the election to Herbert Hoover. The Yankees had a better year, sweeping the Cardinals in the 1928 World Series in four games. This is one of the most highly regarded of all sports related presidential campaign posters. The poster is preservation mounted on linen with visible fold lines and some creasing but displays beautifully. VG-EX condition. Matted and framed to overall size of 28 1/2" x 34".
