In 1963, veteran big leaguer Bill “Moose” Skowron joined the Los Angeles Dodgers and promptly helped the team win the World Series. After battling as a member of the Bronx Bombers for nine seasons and appearing in seven Fall Classics, Skowron made the most of his opportunity with his new team by batting .385 in the World Series to help beat his old team by way of a four-game sweep. This lot features a wood laminated photo measuring 16” wide by 13” high that includes Skowron (far right) and five of his trusted Dodgers teammates singing into a microphone from the ’63 campaign: from left, Frank Howard, Tommy Davis, Ron Perranoski, Willie Davis and Don Drysdale. Each of the players has personalized the photo with written inscriptions in blue ink to Moose Skowron. From Howard: “To Moose! The Best S.O.B. that ever lived! Your buddy, Frank.” From Tommy Davis: “To Moose, Keep them hips loose that’s the only way to do that twist. Your man, Tom Davis (T.D.).” From Perranowski: “To Bill (Bill Moose) Thumbs up you’re the greatest. Ron Perranoski.” From Willie Davis: “To Moose, one of the best damn guys I have ever known. Your pal, Willie D.” From Drysdale: “To Moose – A Real Pro & a Wonderful Guy – It’s been my pleasure to have you as a teammate. My best always – Your Pal, Don.” The photo even includes a pair of inscriptions to Moose (written across his chest and legs) from a couple of personal friends: “A wonderful guy and a wonderful ballplayer & plays a hell of a paper bag – Mack “Mets” Pearson” and “I’ll teach you to sing if you’ll show me how to knock them out of the ballpark. Your friend, Harry.” Each of the players in the photo are wearing their respective Los Angeles Dodgers home uniforms.
