This Type 1 photo captures future Hall of Famer Larry Bird in his rookie season. The photo is marked on the back as March 6, 1980, but the presence of a Houston Rockets player means it was likely taken the day before when Boston beat Houston, 103-99. In that game, the rookie Bird scored 15 points on his way to winning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award.
The front of the photo shows light toning with light edge wear and a minimal amount of corner creasing. The reverse of the photo contains Houston Chronicle date stamp “Thu Mar 6, 1980” and photographer John Everett’s credit stamp. Various handwritten pencil and pen notations are present and there is overall toning and light staining throughout.
