Pair of 1894 cabinet cards featuring obscure major league players-Bob Stafford (1 single major league game in 1890 in the American Association) and "Brownie" Foreman(1895-6 he played for the Pirates and Reds in the National League). Pictures are by W. W. Foster of Richmond, Virginia. Players are shown in their Virginia State League Champion, Petersburg Farmers, uniforms. Both are identified in ink by name, position, and year on both the front and back. The backs contain the further notations "Pennant Winners" and "Oct. 8/94". Both cabinets are in EX-MT+ condition with the gold gilt edges almost totally in tact.
The image of Stafford is absolutely stunning. This recent find is quite historic as it is the only known original photo of this major leaguer and the first photo discovered.
Extensive research on the 1894 Petersburg Farmers, including copies of the entire season coverage by the Petersburg Daily Index-Appeal, is also included.
