In 1927, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig were the best in the game. The home-run sluggers led the Yankees to their second of three consecutive pennants, and they would go on to sweep Pittsburgh in the World Series that fall. This expressive Type 1 Acme Newspictures photo captures the pair showing off their bats to one another. Ruth would hit a record 60 homers that summer, while Gehrig would slam 52 and win the MVP Award. The photo shows toning from age and edge wear. The upper left and right corners have creases, and the image has some scratches, mostly in the lower left area. None of these condition issues take away from the beauty of this piece, nor the historical value it holds. On the reverse, an Acme Newspictures stamp and a “July 20, 1927” date stamp can be found. There is some staining found on the reverse, along with some paper loss to the surface. A wonderful photo showing Ruth and Gehrig right in the middle of the magical 1927 season. The 8" X 10" photo has been encapsulated and graded an Authentic Type 1 by PSA.
