Featured is a gorgeous Ruth autograph placed on a one-cent check. The check was evidently part of a joke or a gag bet; the recipient, Wellington Cross was a noted numismatist, celebrated vaudeville performer and occasional partner of Babe's on stage. Ruth's magnificent autograph is placed "G H RUTH" in black fountain pen. One of the finer Ruth autos we've handled on a bank note medium in years.  Here are the specifics:

Printed check (212 x 80 mm), no place (printed designation of Cincinnati crossed out), 1922, accomplished by Ruth in favor of Waldo C. Moore for one cent, countersigned by Wellington Cross, drawn on the First National Bank, Cincinnati, Ohio, overprinted in red "Counter-Check," and with vignette of the First National Bank Building in the left margin. Matted, framed, and glazed.

This wonderful Ruth piece originates from the Roy P. Crocker Historical Document Collection of the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association (Sotheby Parke Bernet, November 28, 1979 Lot 305).

Comes with a full LOA from Beckett Authentication Service.
