A fine example of one of the most desired baseball advertising pieces: the circa 1910 Christy Mathewson Tuxedo Trolley card. The Tuxedo company outdid themselves when they created their famous series of ballplayer ads, but the Mathewson version is especially exquisite. The “Christian Gentleman” gazed confidently directly at the viewer, his boyish charm mixed with the iron determination that won him 20 or more games a season thirteen times and earned him the pitcher’s Triple Crown (Wins, K's & ERA) twice. The golden yellow background compliments the warm gray of Matty’s road uniform. A dimensional illustration of the green packaging and red script Tuxedo logo add to the striking color of this piece.

Measuring 11x21”, this is among the finest advertising pieces of baseball’s Golden Era. It shows overall toning from age along with some edge wear, though none of this distracts from the vibrant hues of the artwork. This is one of the finest, if not, the finest condition Mathewson signs ever offered at auction. Presents in Excellent to Near Mint condition. This piece has been professionally matted and framed with UV glass, further enhancing the beauty of this piece. To read an article about this collection from Sports Collectors Daily, click here.
