A.G. Spalding was the premier pitcher of the 1870s and an organizational genius during baseball's formative years. After the creation of his still-thriving sporting goods business in 1876, Spalding left the playing field for an executive role with the White Stockings. As team president from 1882 to 1891, he directed the club to three pennants. Three volumes bearing his signature include: “Mushroom Culture” (inscribed in pencil, dated June 1, 1908); “Memoirs of Madame De Remusat” 1879 (signed in pencil beneath name stamp and faint signature of his wife); “The Consulate and The Empire” 1894 (signed in ink). Books average excellent condition. Signatures rate 9/10, 7/10, and 8/10 respectively. LOAs from PSA/DNA and JSA.
Estimate: $3,000-5,000
