On June 26, 1998, the San Diego Padres turned back the clock with 1978 uniforms, then turned back the streaking Anaheim Angles, 6-3. The Padres’ bats were hot that night as Ken Caminiti went 3-for-5 with his 11th homer and 2 RBI, Gregg Vaughn went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI, and the late Tony Gwynn went 2-for-4 with a walk. Offered in this lot is the magnificent San Diego Padres Turn-Back-the-Clock jersey that Gwynn donned that night in San Diego. This yellow-and-brown Mitchell & Ness knit jersey (size 52) is lettered ”San Diego Padres” across the chest with Gwynn’s uniform number ”19” appearing on both the left breast and reverse. ”GWYNN” is lettered across the shoulders on the back directly above his number in single tackle twill. All letters and numbers are in a golden yellow while the rest of the jersey is a dark brown. A simple ”Mitchell & Ness Cooperstown Collection” tag is stitched on the lower left of this pull over jersey along with a ”T.B.C., 6-26-98” tag. The size 52 tag is stitched into the collar and a 1978 All-Star Game patch appears on the left sleeve. In addition, Gwynn’s game-worn Mitchell & Ness yellow-and-brown cap (size 7 1/8) is offered.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.

A portion of the proceeds generated by the Tony Gwynn Collection will be donated to the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation. The TAG Foundation is a non-profit, 5013(c) charity dedicated to creating and supporting programs that enhance opportunities for youth to become healthy, educated, and productive citizens. The TAG Foundation was organized in San Diego in 1995 by Tony’s wife, Alicia. For more information, visit www.tagwynn2.org.
