The great Tony Gwynn collected 3,141 hits during his prolific MLB tenure with the San Diego Padres. But it was on July 13, 1997, when he collected a significant career milestone: Hit No. 2,700. The hit came in the form of a two-run single against Colorado Rockies starter Jamey Wright in a 13-11 victory for the visiting Padres. This lot includes the official National League baseball (Coleman) that Gwynn ripped that day. The well-worn, game-used baseball includes a special callout on one panel that reads: “2,700th Career Hit in Col. 7-13-97.” On the opposite side panel it simply reads: “Gwynn.”

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.

A portion of the proceeds generated by the Tony Gwynn Collection will be donated to the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation. The TAG Foundation is a non-profit, 5013(c) charity dedicated to creating and supporting programs that enhance opportunities for youth to become healthy, educated, and productive citizens. The TAG Foundation was organized in San Diego in 1995 by Tony’s wife, Alicia. For more information, visit www.tagwynn2.org.
