The late, great Tony Gwynn was a member of baseball’s exclusive “3,000 Hit Club.” He registered a total of 3,141 hits during his impressive career with the San Diego Padres. One of his milestone hits (No. 1500) occurred on August 15, 1990, against then-Montreal Expos southpaw reliever Steve Frey. The game, which was played at San Diego’s Jack Murphy Stadium, went into extra innings where the Expos eventually secured a 5-3 win in 17 innings. This lot includes the official National League (White) baseball that Gwynn hit for his 1,500th career base knock. The ball includes a special callout that reads: “1500th Base Hit – hit off of Frey of Montreal at San Diego Stadium. 8-15-90.” It even includes Gwynn’s line score across the sweet spot: “6AB - 0R - 2H - 2RBI.”

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.

A portion of the proceeds generated by the Tony Gwynn Collection will be donated to the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation. The TAG Foundation is a non-profit, 5013(c) charity dedicated to creating and supporting programs that enhance opportunities for youth to become healthy, educated, and productive citizens. The TAG Foundation was organized in San Diego in 1995 by Tony’s wife, Alicia. For more information, visit www.tagwynn2.org.
