The first New York Yankees captain since Lou Gehrig, backstop Thurman Munson was a key element during the franchise's return to glory in the 1970s. With three Gold Glove honors, a Rookie of the Year award and an MVP laurel on his resume, Munson was at the peak of his brilliant career when he was killed in a plane crash in 1979. This unused unofficial ball has been signed and inscribed by the pinstriped great. On a side panel, Munson's blue ballpoint penning, "To Danny - Best Wishes - Thurman Munson," projects strongly with a PSA/DNA grade of 7. The sphere is near white with only the mildest evidence of toning and has earned a PSA/DNA grade of 8. Full LOA from PSA/DNA with 8 overall grade (autograph 8; ball 7).
