Early baseball memorabilia is understandably rare and highly collectible in any format. This piece, produced in 1867 to promote the sheet music to Jas. M. Goodman’s The Baseball Polka, is among the most sought after and as well as visually attractive. Ideally, the central illustration features a ball game underway, with the players dressed in their Civil War-era uniforms on an early-style diamond field. The title of the song, The Baseball Polka, is written on a flowing banner at the top of the piece and ornamented with crossed bats, a cap and ball. A wonderfully illustrated piece representing the very early days of our National Pastime. The piece has been professionally matted and framed.
